Meanwhile, 27 of the 117 features playing at this year\u2019s festival have female directors.<\/p>\n<p>The Oscar-nominated actress <a href=\"http:\/\/movies.nytimes.com\/person\/1548247\/Vera-Farmiga?inline=nyt-per\">Vera Farmiga<\/a> is here with her high-profile directing debut, a haunting portrait of self-discovery called <a href=\"http:\/\/movies.nytimes.com\/movie\/126227\/Higher-Ground\/overview\">\u201cHigher Ground.\u201d<\/a> The newcomer Cindy Meehl has one of the festival\u2019s most talked-about  documentaries in <a href=\"http:\/\/movies.nytimes.com\/movie\/318195\/Steal-Me\/overview\">\u201cBuck,\u201d<\/a> about bonds between people and horses.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/01\/22\/movies\/22sundance.html?_r=2&amp;sq=sundance+film+festival&amp;st=cse&amp;adxnnl=1&amp;scp=3&amp;adxnnlx=1295719669-TWNR3enCpzUEJpheVTknjw\" target=\"_blank\">Read NY Times article&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For Women, Sundance is Sunnier Than Hollywood PARK CITY, Utah \u2014 Somewhere in the 600 or so miles between this mountain town, host to the Sundance Film Festival, and the movie factories of Hollywood, female filmmakers seem to vanish.
